Tim Flannery said it on the post game show. Baseball is a game of ups and downs. It was not a great week for the Giants since it exposed many of the weaknesses the team has in scoring runs and pitching.
We know hitting is going to be a problem and that was proven this week. The return of Pence should help. . . McGehee got hurt but hasn't shown me anything. . . We not only miss Pablo's bat and threat but also his fielding at third. . . Every time Bochy gives Crawford a chance to move up in the lineup he flops big time . . . Keep him hitting eighth but he is great in the field . . .I was just about to say bench Blanco and he hits a triple but his outfield play has left something to be desired starting in the last inning of the 7th game of the 2014 World Series. . . Give Maxwell an opportunity to start three games in a row and see what develops.
Review of the pitching staff.
Bumgarner got belted Saturday. Even Kershaw has gotten hit so far this season. Nobody is perfect in this game but the thought of pitching over 270 innings last year keeps lingering in the back of the mind.
Peavy looked great the first inning then he started to nibble and as Krukow said that means he hasn't got confidence in his pitches. Will he start again?
Lincecum looked very good and under control.
Hudson also looked very good like he did last year. Should be a good starter until the All Star break. . .then will he tire like last year?
Heston the rookie off to great start that has to thrill Bochy and the staff
Cain not surprising he is on the DL. Its really a long shot if he will produce anything for the Giants this year. A real lesson on why you don't give pitchers long term rich contracts. But I am told they can afford it since according to Forbes the value of team increased from $1 billion to $2 billion in one year.
Vogelsong. Could be released by the end of May.
Petit has given up a couple of runs in his outings. Remember I said he is not as sharp in April as he is later in the season.
Kontos and Machi are just good enough to stay around. . . Casilla and Romo have looked sharp .. Affeldt lost a game but is still very reliable and Lopez is over rated.

I am getting sick and tired of hearing about Curry and NBA's Most Valuable Player Award. The real season is about to begin and that's were the focus should be.
Vernon Davis commented on how great Kapernick look. Doing what? And what's Davis doing on the team? He didn't get a raise like he wanted last year then he played like it. . . I think they have ruined Kapernick. My opinion is to let him play his wild style and if he gets hurt that's part of the game.
The Masters - from Tony G
A man had two of the best tickets for The Masters.
As he sits down, another man comes along and asks if anyone is sitting in the seat next to him.
"No", he says, "the seat is empty."
"This is incredible!" said the man, "who in their right mind would have a seat like this, the biggest golfing even of the whole world and not use it?"
He says, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. My wife always would come with me, but she passed away. This is the first Masters we haven't been to together since we got married."
"Oh . . . I'm sorry to hear that. That's terrible. I guess you couldn't find some one else? A friend or relative or even a neighbor to take the seat?"
The man shakes his head. . .
"No. They're all at the funeral."
