Giants
I wrote in the last post that the Giants were not ready to face the Washington Nationals. They had just gotten swept by the red hot Cubs and then were only able to score three runs in splitting two games with the Astros.
They made me look stupid as they swept four games from the Nationals knocking out some the best starting pitchers in baseball. Hasn't that been the Giants all year? Streaky! There were many stars for the Giants led by Bumgarner great game Sunday, the relief staff, and the continual steady hitting of Blanco, Duffy, Posey, Belt and Pence.
Bochy has played musical chairs at second starring Tomlinson on Thursday. He blew a double play so Adrianza started Friday. He also blew a play in the filed so Tomlinson was back at second and used the opportunity to get a couple of important extra base hits. As K & K said on television he needs to work on his pivot at second base. Then I ask what do they teach them in the minors? Adrianza and Perez continue to disappoint me at the plate.
The Giants have made an offer for Utley of the Phillies. Forget it. Tear it up. All he wants is playing time to showcase himself for a team next year. He has no intention of really helping a team like the Giants win. The Giants don't need him.
The new Giants starter Mike Leake is scheduled to pitch Tuesday in St. Louis. They need to drop a player and the most obvious choice would be Osich whose has options left. He has pitched well for the Giants so it is not an easy decision. Cain should be the pitcher dropped but I don't think there is any real way can do it without putting him on the DL. Or they could possibly say good-bye to Lincecum and put him on the 60 day DL.
What Giant team will show up this week in St. Louis and Pittsburgh?
49ers
Some of you might read Bleacher Report on the web. A few days ago they had the projected records of all the NFL teams for the coming season and the 49ers are expected to be 3-13. They are right about 20% of the time. So if you can still get over or under six wins for the season at Vegas for the 49er it looks like a good bet to pick under. Don't tell me its not worth reading this blog.
The Niners Saturday night 23-10 loss was not on television or radio in the Los Angeles market. However the 6 o'clock news on ABC7 Saturday had highlights of the game in progress so I did see Houston's big touchdown and a few other plays. The talk of the game has to be former rugby star from Australia Jarryd Hayne who impressed with a long run. Will talk about this sensation make the faithful forget the many other 49er problems? The weekend was topped off with the very popular Aussie Jason Day wining the PGA tournament. It wasn't too many decades ago that Australians only won tennis matches.
Incidentally Houston is also expected to be 3-13 this season so the pre season game was an even match up .
